How does the pediatric imager rejoin the team? As my friend Walter Berdon likes to say, "How does the imager cease to be a prisoner in solitary confinement?" Most important, one must realize what was lost (The easier path-a blueprint for failure) and must want to change things. Without a sincere desire to make an effort, pediatric imagers will remain isolated and will become viewed as incidental to patient care, no more valued than any other commodity. However, the costs of rejoining the team are not inconsequential (see below) and, therefore, this decision has to be "top down"; that is, the chief must see the value of the endeavor and support it, not merely with words but by actions.
