In many companies, those engaged in maintenance are just considered cost-entailing entities, and all maintenance measures are regarded as profit-reducing factors. Since it is of course encessary to minimise maintenance costs, it is often forgotten that the maintenance staff has the central authority to maintain production and raise plant availability, thus constituting an important factor of competition.
