Considerations for ethics in multisite research in paediatric palliative care.

Sir-In the January 2008 issue of Palliative Medicine, we were interested to read the letter to the editor calling for international multisite research. As paediatric palliative care researchers, we concur that multisite research is necessary. However, the authors failed to mention the ethical obstacles frequently involved in multisite studies. It is well-recognized that it can be difficult and time-consuming to obtain approval from Research Ethics Boards (REBs) for multicentre studies.~1-6 The high cost associated with multiple REB applications is often not anticipated, creating the need to seek extra funding.
