Japan's space development programs are planned and coordinated by the Space Development Committee, while the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA), established in 1969, is in charge of the practical applications of space technology. The Tsukuba Space Center, located in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, was established in 1972 as NASDA's core research facility. Its main programs include the research and development of rockets and artificial satellites, the tracking and management of artificial satellites launched by Japan and the development of the Japanese Experiment Module 0EM) as part of the international space station program initiated by the United States.
