Albacore adaptation:A smaller, older West Coast fleet follows the fish north as markets,ocean conditions change

Though markets for West Coast albacore have changed over the years and catch efforts are declining, the fishery fills income gaps for trailers and is sustainably managed without significant restrictions.The albacore fishery has also shifted north in recent years as fishermen follow tuna to Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The trend is partly attributable to ocean conditions, but by 2001, the California-based cannery industry had completely shut down and relocated overseas, driving a decline.
