We normally visit with skippers who direct vessels carrying fishermen across the water. This month, same thing ... except across the sky. Mission: Move 800-plus people, nine at a time, between two islands out in the ocean, in the fierce Aleutian winter, in a WWII-era seaplane. Impossible? Not to Captain Steve Hakala of Peninsula Airways in Alaska. He lives for the challenge and loves doing it. "It's a lot of fun," Hakala says. "The more I do it, the better I like it." Flying the Grumman Goose in theAleutians is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Hakala.
