Those miniature cork-looking things that aren't really corks and make mysterious noises when submerged - they're the latest in "acoustic, non-lethal technology" for gillnetters and seiners. It has taken awhile for Whale Pingers to catch on and becomefully understood. I get questioned all the time by fishermen wondering if they actually work. The short answer, based on what I can derive from fisherman feedback, is yes, indeed, they do. But what is a Pinger. How do they function? How does one usefully employ them in a seine or gillnet.
