Main Street businesses are applauding a new bipartisan House bill aimed at controlling huge, hidden "swipe fees" that banks collect every time a customer uses plastic to pay. Introduced in March, the House legislation came one day after Senators Dick Durbin (D-III.) and Kit Bond (R-Mo.) announced an amendment to the Senate's own credit-card legislation calling for swipe-fee transparencies, consumer discounts on debit cards and less expensive credit cards.
