The Max Planck Institutes carry out ba-sic research on behalf of the people.In the process the Max Planck Society takes up innovative forms of research that have not yet found a place in the syllabus of universities,don't fit in their organisational framework or demand a higher investment than the universities can afford.So the breadth of interest of these institutes ranges from the scientific fields of physics,biology,chemistry,medicine to subjects in humanities like history and jurisprudence.Even meteorology and software systems are areas of research in the institutes of the Max Planck Society.
