Use of moulding sands with high cooling effect in manufacture of heavy steel castings

Moulding sands with high cooling effect are used particularly in manufacture of demanded castings from low-alloy carbon steel highly susceptible to formation of cracks. For that reason a new technology using moulding sand with high thermal conductivity instead of cooling ribs used up to now was used for this casting. Surface in transitional radiuses was so fine after using this moulding sand that immediately after blasting the electromagnetic test could be done without any further grinding the surface. This test has met the acceptance terms of DIN 1690, part 2-S1 without repair of defects and it was done again after thermal treatment with the same result.
