I read with interest the article entitled "Dental changes evaluated with a 3D computer-assisted model analysis after long-term tongue retaining device wear in OSA patients" by Chen et al. . The reported cases are thought-provoking, but the following points should be made.The title of the article is inaccurate as it suggests that a 3D analysis was undertaken. In fact, simple linear measurements were taken.The Abstract has no explanation of how the compliance was assessed. Specifically, no tongue pressure measurements were taken in these cases, and the authors' speculation needs to be clarified. There is confusion in the discussion on the effects of a tongue retaining device (TRD) and the effects of the "other types" of appliances that these patients may have been subjected to.
