A dental apparatus (102) comprising: a fixing mechanism for fixing the dental apparatus (102) on predetermined teeth of the upper jaw (10) of a patient; and a retention mechanism coupled with the fixation mechanism, and configured for positioning above the tongue (5) of a patient, where the retention mechanism includes an arch (104) that is shaped to limit movement of an area posterior (35) of the patient's tongue (5); characterized in that the arch (104) is configured for positioning above an occlusion plane (P) of the patient, preventing the retention mechanism from the back area (35) adhering to the palate (3) while allowing at least one anterior area and the lateral edges (32, 33) of the patient's tongue (5) make the necessary movements for speech and swallowing.
