The third-order optical nonlinearities of theorganometallic salts, [CpFe(#eta#-C_6H_6)]_n [M(mnt)_2] and[CpFe(#eta#-C_6H_6)]_n [M(dmit)_2] (M = Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu or Co;Cp = #eta#-Cyclopentadienyl; H_2mnt=maleonitriledithiole;H_2dmit=4,5-dimercapto-l,3-dithiole -2- thione; n = 1 or 2), werestudied by means of degenerate four-wave-mixing (DFWM)technique at 532 nm. Their second hyperpolarizablities are in theorder of 10~-30 esu. The results suggest that the observed opticalnonlinearities mainly come from the contribution of the metaldithiolene anions, and contribution from resonant enhancementplays a dominant role in determining the intensity of nonlinearityof this class of materials.
