The new national steel policy should he more visionary

The draft of the new national steel policy has pegged the country's steelmaking capacity in the range of 244-281 million tonnes by the year 2026. In fact, the policy also projects the steel demands in our country to be around 202 million tonnes in case of 7 per cent GDP growth and 233 million tonnes in case of 8 percent GDP growth. The previous national steel policy had projected the country's steel production at 110 million tonnes. Thus it has been always been reflected that the Ministry of Steel lacks foresight while formulating policies.
