Design, development and implementation of stores management system at RDCIS, SAIL

摘要

Material Management Division (MMD) of RDCIS undertakes procurement of variety of items for research projects as well as for other activities. Around 20% procurement is related to stock control items which are procured and managed by stores section of MMD. These procurements are of repetitive in nature. The paper is based on a project work on design and development of an integrated web-based software for Stores Division at RDCIS. The paper discusses about database design, application design and development of software for an information system related to functional activities of stores section. The software has a robust database design having standards related to suppliers/vendors, product category, stock control items etc. Standardization modules have brought flexibility in the software, and can accom-modate new items without any modification in software code.
