GDP and the Economy: Advance Estimates for the Second Quarter of 2009

REAL GROSS domestic product (GDP) decreased at an annual rate of 1.0 percent in the second quarter of 2009, according to the "advance" estimates of the national income and product accounts (NIPAs) (chart 1 and table I). In the first quarter, real GDP decreased 6.4 percent. The estimates for 1929 through the first quarter of 2009 have been revised as part of the comprehensive NIPA revision.
