GDP and the Economy: Second Estimates for the Fourth Quarter of 2012

REAL GROSS domestic product (GDP) increased 0.1 percent at an annual rate in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to the second estimates of the national income and product accounts (NIPAs) (chart 1 and table l). The second estimate of real GDP growth was revised up 0.2 percentage point from the advance estimate of -0.1 percent, reflecting an upward revision to exports, a downward revision to imports, and an upward revision to nonresidential fixed investment that were partly offset by a downward revision to private inventory investment. Although the second estimate revised the direction of change in real GDP, the general picture of the economy for the fourth quarter remains largely the same as that presented by the advance estimate.
