Trichodinid ectoparasites (Ciliophora: Peritrichida) from the gills of cultured marine fishes in China, with the description of Trichodinella lomi n. sp

Three species of cultured percoids from overwintering pools in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, were examined during the winter of 1995 and found to be heavily infected by trichodinid ectoparasites. A total of 5 species of trichodinids belonging to 3 genera, Trichodinella, Dipartiella and Trichodina were recorded. Trichodinella lomi sp. nov. is described and figured from Chrysophrys major (type host) and Lateolabrax japonicus: the denticle is characterised by its acutely triangular blade, comma-like central part and inconspicuous ray. The morphology of Trichodina murmanica was re-investigated, and 3 other little-known species are redescribed: Dipartiella simplex, Trichodina japonica and T. domerguei.
