John Deere four-wheel-drive models, particularly 8870s, are fetching record-high prices at auction. Cool temperatures, hot auction prices. Used farm equipment values roared higher across Canada the first half of 2011. So many new record-high prices ornear records that, honestly, it was hard for me to keep up. The months of April, May, and June were incredible. I saw this trend of rising values on all types of used equipment. But one market in particular stood out: four-wheel-drive tractors. A 1994 Deere 8870 with 1,933 hours that sold on an April 14, 2011, auction in east-central Saskatchewan is a good example. This tractor was a beauty, with only 1,933 one-owner hours. It had been shedded its entire life. It sold for Can$90;000 or US$93,000.
