摘要

The main difficulty is the smallness of the plot of land, a sort of 600-metre long strip as demarcated in Dominique Perrault's urban development plan, frustrating; my desire for space, which is one I share with all landscape architects. So here thenthere isn't much space, but this limitation actually guided me, helped me to come up with possible ideas. This strip of land didn't correspond to the standard image of the botanical garden -- like those in the Middle Ages, which were a bit like very private, closed boxes. I could have closed the garden in, but that would have gone against the contemporary demand for an opening into all kinds of knowledge and information. So the strip was unfolded over the city. I made sure that the limit would not be defined as such but would form a landscape. One of the challenges of this garden is that its border is in the middle of the landscape, that the people inside see outside. This is why 1 decided on a fence that would serve as a display rack for pioneer plants, so as to bring the garden into the neighbourhood, to enable it to be appropriated by people since, outside or inside, there's the possibility of the same dynamic approach.
