Good morning. I want to thank the Department of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers for their commitment to standards excellence, and for hosting this event. Their efforts underscore the value of standards and the role they play in bringing about new technologies, in supporting manufacturing and commerce, and in keeping industry strong and competitive. Standards are the backbone of trade, the building blocks for innovation, and the basis for quality, safety, and interoperability.This morning, some of the best and brightest from both the public and private sectors will provide their thoughts and insights on the current standards system, the role standards will play in solving some of today's complex issues, and how government and industry are working together to leverage standards for the greatest good. My role is to help set the stage for their remarks.
