Due to ever increasing demands with respect to design and quality of sintered mouldings made using powder metallurgy, it is unavoidable that specialised kiln furniture needs to be used. The range and specifications of such furniture therefore needs to be closely agreed between kiln furniture manufacturers and producers of formed sintered products. In the powder metallurgy industry, a distinction is made between metal injection moulding (MIM) and dry-press manufacture. The primary need for powder metallurgy sintered components is in the automotive industry, in parts for motors or gearing, for example. The requirements here are for a high degree of precision in the dimensions as well as high surface quality (hardness).
