Process for the manufacture of a kiln furniture made of ceramic foam, especially for plate firing, comprising at least one cycle of impregnation with a slip of a preform made of polymeric material with open porosity having substantially the outline of the furniture, followed by drying and then by sintering at high temperature with removal of the polymer, characterised in that the impregnated preform is subjected to draining of the slip by differential pressing so as to vary the porosity continuously along the profile and to obtain the necessary mechanical strength in sensitive regions such as the frames.
