The Troyer Brothers, Ft. Myers, Fla., is one of the largest potato growers in the state and attributes much of its success to embracing and adapting new technology, including food safety and traceability. By customizing common software, the company can trace its potatoes from field to packing house - and adopted a new accountability standard along the way. The story begins in 1943 when Vernon Troyer started tablestock potato production in Pennsylvania, eventually moving almost wholly into processed potatoes. Vernon's sons, David, Donald and Vernon, Jr., took an active role in the family farm.
