When zebra chip (ZC) was first discovered in the Pacific Northwest U.S. in 2011, area researchers possessed limited resources for studying the disease and its only known vector—the potato psyllid.But as the disease has spread, so have the efforts to study and understand it."Two years ago, we had a relatively small monitoring program, about 15 fields," said Erik Wenninger, entomologist for the University of Idaho's Kimberly Research and Extension Center. "By 2013, we had over 100 fields spread across southern Idaho."
