As companies increasingly move into more and more hostile environments (corrosive gases, higher temperatures, greater depths) to recover oil & gas, particularly in offshore situations, so safety and preventive maintenance become ever more important issues on marine platforms. In this article the corrosion mechanisms at work are looked at for both now and in the future.
