The demand for electricity around the world is expected to rise sharply in the medium-to-long term and thermal power generation is one of the important ways by which this demand will be met. In order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and achieve energy-savings, it is imperative to improve energy efficiency. Achieving high temperatures and high-steam pressures in the boiler is a common challenge facing all methods by which thermal power is generated. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) are at the forefront of the developments of thermal power generation, and they have reinforced their research & development capabilities and quality management system to further this aim, as related in this article.
