The Expert Furnace Systerm Optimisation Process (EFSOP) is now well established in EAF steelmaking. Similar control concepts are applicable to other furnace systems and a trial is underway at Hamilton Steel where EFSOP has been applied to a BOF converter. Development projects also continue for its application where EFSOP has been applied to a BOF converter. Development projects also continue for its application on cement kilns and power stations. Tenova Goodfellow Inc (TGI), (formerly Techint Goodfellow Technologies Inc) has developed a reliable real time off-gas measurement and control system called the Goodfellow Expert Furnace System Optimisation Process (EFSOP). The EFSOP system has been proven in the harsh environment of electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking with more than 200 000 analysed heats to date. The EFSOP technology is a proprietary process that uses real-time and continuous off-gas analysis, along with process monitoring to optimise the operation of a furnace and can also be applied to oxygen steelmaking furnaces (BOF).
