North Carolina's Hartley family carries on tradition. Tucked into the corner of a fieldl bordering a hillside, in the rolling forested hills near the Yadkin River, a Prentice 310E loader harmonizes with a CTR delimber and slasher as they methodicallyturn trees into logs. The machines respond to the mind and motions of Mike Hartley, 47, while his sons, Anthony, 25 and Michael Jr, 29, continue to skid hardwoods to the landing with a pair of John Deere skidders. Not many minutes pass before a Ken-worth/Pitts rig is filled. Mike's brother, Gene, 60, secures and rechecks the load and guides the truck toward the highway.
