Science in South Wales with BCRA

Following the 22nd BCRA Cave Science Symposium at Cardiff University, 35 people assembled at 9am on Sunday, March 6 2011 at the car park at the Dan yr Ogof National Showcaves Centre for Wales, for a two-part event jointly organised with the South Wales Caving Club (SWCC). Everyone was provided with a copy of Caves & Caving issue 90 which features articles about DYO. After introductions on the surface by Dr Keith Ball (DYO and its geology), Dr Noel Christopher (Ogof Ffynnon Ddu and its geology), and Prof John Gunn (radon control), we were led into the showcave. Although it was out-ofseason for the general public, showcave owner Ashford Price kindly turned on the lights. This was much appreciated, but it did mean that at various places we could not avoid the audio soundtrack, which made communication difficult until we moved on.
