A study by Natural Resources Research Institute at University of Minnesota could spell hope for a troublesome problem with wind energy - that the wind may not always blow when electricity is needed. To combat this issue old open pit iron mines filled with water across the Iron Range could actually work as giant batteries and store energy from wind turbines.
