Kiryandongo does not fit the cliche of a refugee camp. There are no children with swollen bellies, no mothers with outstretched bowls, no people trudging over inhospitable terrain, Instead, Kiryandongo looks like a new village, Ugandan style. The compounds are swept clean, the mud houses neatly finished and the fields full of freshly planted crops. "The land looks similar to my home in Sudan," says refugee Gerald Otim, looking out over the green, gently undulating hills. "The only difference is it'smore fertile here."
