Progress in the synthesis of porous nanostructures with controlled morphology has led to their intriguing properties, attractive applications, as well as industrial and environmental benefits. ~([1,2]) Porous nanomaterials provide a universal platform for gas sensing, ~([3]) photocatalysis, ~([4]) biosensing, ~([5]) drug delivery, [ 6 ] surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), ~([7]) lithium-ion batteries, ~([8]) and solar cells. ~([9]) As an important semiconductor, the ZnO porous nanostructure with unique physicochemical properties and excellent biocompatibility has attracted particular attention. Currently, there are two popular wet-chemical strategies for nanoscale porous ZnO preparation: one employs organic molecules as structure-directing templates to build up the porous hierarchical architecture; ~([10]) the other uses ZnS ~([11]) or basic zinc salt as precursor followed by calcination to obtain morphology-retained porous materials. ~([1,12]) Although some works mentioned the self-assembly strategy, ~([13]) further investigations on the growth mechanism and alternative control over methodology with low energy cost are required for creating novel structures and developing up-to-date applications.
