摘要

Cataract extraction is a common veterinary ophthalmologic surgical procedure. In addition to pha-coemulsification, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is gaining in popularity. Most surgeons use a clear corneal incision to enter the anterior chamber;in human beings, however, a scleral incision has been reported to decrease postoperative corneal astigmatism and scarring and to improve wound healing and wound stability. There have been no comparisons of the corneal and scleral approaches in the veterinary literature. The effects of the corneal and scleral approaches for performing phacoemul-sification and IOL implantation on surgically induced corneal astigmatism in dogs were assessed.
