Compassionate Economics and the Cost of a -or- Mom Won't Tell the Feds

In discussion, the issue of a compassionate dairy practice is unwieldy, sometimes volatile: from the vegan view that dairy is stealing from a milk cow to the factory dairy view that a cow is a unit of production. But the discussion is not the fact. Inpractice, dairying is governed by economics. Farm budgets aren't known to be generous but the factory farm feeding of an out-of-control world growth by genetic manipulation and chemical seduction is downright cruel. It is based on a common business practice dictating the separation of compassion from economics. The bottom line is that compassion and economics belong together for the sake of our own humanity. It is possible and profitable, especially with the participation of the ever-increasing small family homestead feeding its own extended family.
