Most modern flat-panel TVs do not have a headphone socket. In many cases, they don't have audio line outputs either. A simple way to add a headphone output to a device with speakers is to simply wire a switched jack socket to the internal amplifiers. This is connected so that when headphones are plugged in, the internal amplifiers are disconnected from the speakers and connected to the headphones via a current-limiting resistor instead.
