摘要

Let's visit two homes in your community. One home is beautified by flowering trees and is hosted by large shade trees. The other home is tree-less. Why? It could have to do with the homeowner's childhood. In 2005, Washington State University ProfessorVirginia Lohr set out to test the theory that childhood experiences with nature, gardening, and tree planting influenced an adult's outlook on the how beneficial trees are. She surveyed adults about their current attitudes toward trees. She also asked them about their childhood experiences with nature and gardening. The results of her survey confirmed what most tree lovers know intuitively: children who actively gardened (such as picking flowers or planting trees) became adults who valued trees. So ifa community is struggling to gain support for its tree program, it would be wise to start involving children to plant trees.
