Nothofagus nervosa (= N. alpina) represents one of the most important native tree species among the Southern Southamerican Temperate Forest. Its ecological situation in Argentina with a very reduce distribution area, overexploitation in the past, recurrent forest fires and overgrazing makes it a suitable species for conservation and improvement programs.
