Variability and management of surface water in MoroccoOriginal Title (non-English) Variabilite et gestion des eaux de surface au Maroc [French]

摘要

Although the context is difficult (water resources are rare and subject to only limited exploitation as well as being threatened by climate change, pollution and increasing water demand), Morocco has thus far managed to satisfy its water demand and to sustain its socio-economic development with real success. This success is largely due to efficient management of the water sector. To face the new context of climate change, a new strategy must be implemented. It will require solutions to mobilize important amounts of water, and also rigorous management of the water demand. Its main axes are: the management of demand and attributing added value to water through water savings, management and development of dams, water transfer, desalination, re-use of waste waters, preservation and protection of water resources in regards to natural hazards linked to inundations and droughts, pursuing reforms (involving regulations and institutions), modernization of information systems, and reinforcement of means and skills.
