Development of Relevant Non-human Primate Models A New Research Platform for Neuroinflammatory Disease

The successful development of biotechnology-derived pharma-ceuticals critically depends on the availability of relevant animal models in which the safety and efficacy can be tested. As the high species specificity often precludes testing in the standard rodent I models there is a growing need for validated disease models in species more closely related to man, i.e. non-human primates. In this publication we present a new precompetitive research consortium comprising scientists from academia and drug development industry who will collaborate on the cost-effective development of well-validated and clinically relevant disease models.
