Sea state information is often a requirement for coastal engineering, environmental protection, port operations, disaster prevention, rescue operations and other applications. Methods to monitor sea state generally include in-situ or remote sensing techniques. Remote sensing is a useful way to view sea surface features in the spatial domain—the remotely sensed image describes the sea surface based on its backscat-tering strength.
