MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY CO-SPONSORS SEED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY - SEED INDUSTRY SYMPOSIUM AS PART OF CHINA 97

In April 1997, Michigan State University (MSU) was invited by the Chinese Association of Agricultural Sciences and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture to co-sponsor a seed science and technology symposium at China 97, an international meeting in Beijing focusing on the seed industry and international development. This invitation came about because of several seed technology training programmes that MSU had conducted for members of the Chinese seed industry. We agreed to be a co-sponsor and suggestedthat we invite a group of outstanding seed scientists and educators from the United States to participate with a similar group of Chinese seed scientists to comprise the nucleus of the programme. This proposal was accepted and on April 19, 1997, the following group of people met in the Detroit, Michigan airport and departed for Beijing as a group. The group was headed by Prof. L.O. Copeland and was accompanied by Dr. Donald Isleib, Michigan State University Associate Dean of International Agriculture and Dr. Weijun Zhao, Associate Director of the MSU China Programme, who also served as translator for the group.
