Companies that produce non-CMO foods drive traceability programs. Identity preservation (IP) usually refers to identification of a crop product through the marketing channels so the end user of the crop is assured that the specific variety or trait is delivered, says the Indiana Crop Improvement Association. Through field inspections, seed lab testing, bin inspections, auditing and labeling, Indiana Crop and many of its sister agencies in the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA) h ave provided IP services to tion. With more recent food safety concerns (the BSE situation in Canada and country of origin labeling, for example), there is more interest in tracking and auditing production processes throughout the food chain, from farm t o table.
