This paper will cover METCS (Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System), the benefits of the Morgan HYQST~R (High Yield Quenched and Self-Temper) Process and will focus at the latest technology aimed at producing rebars in coils with higher yield strength, without micro alloying. Today's highly competitive rod market requires improved product quality, increased productivity and high equipment utilization. These demands require rod mill equipment and processes to provide tight finished tolerances and improved metallurgical properties while reducing operating costs. To satisfy the market requirements, mill builders have made significant improvements to their equipment. Over the last fifty years, finishing speeds have been increased from twenty meters per second to one hundred and fifty meters per second. Product mechanical and metallurgical properties have also been significantly improved. These improvements are due to:1) Mechanical innovations,2) Highly effective process control strategies,3) Use of sophisticated management Systems, and4) Implementation of analysis and predictive maintenance tools.Taking advantage of the increase in capability of the new microprocessors, Morgan Process Control has developed a number of sophisticated control and monitoring systems, which are designed to take full advantage of the improved mechanical capability of the mill equipment. These systems can be installed as stand alone entities or can be integrated into a larger supervisory system.
