摘要

A novel method of desulfurization and deoxidation of molten iron has been developed with magnesium vapor produced in-situ by reduction of magnesia. The experiments were performed under argon atmosphere. An alumina or graphite tube, which was filled with pellets of the mixture of magnesia and carbon powders or magnesia and aluminum powders, was immersed into the molten iron. Magnesium vapor produced by carbothermic or aluminothermic reduction of magnesia in the tube was injected directly into the molten iron with argon carrier gas. The effects of temperature and carrier gas flow rate were investigated on desulfurization and deoxidation. The experimental results were explained by the mathematical model developed on the basis of mixed control model of magnesium vapor mass transfer in the gas phase and sulfur or oxygen' mass transfer in the liquid phase. This method may offer highly efficient magnesium desulfurization and deoxidation of molten iron.
