This paper presents a material model based on statistical mechanics for SiC particulate-reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites. The predicted evolution of the distribution of void size during tensile deformation was compared with experimental data. The model has been implemented in finite element software to investigate the stress-strain behavior corresponding to distributions of void size coupled with levels of heterogeneity.
