South Korea's Posco is looking carefully at the steel policy issuedby Beijing earlier this monthbefore deciding whether to move ahead on any possible investment in China, a company official said. We are studying China's new steel policy at the moment, especially the requirements on foreign steelmakers investing in the country's steel industry," said an official from Posco-China Holding Corp in Beijing. Steel giant Arcelor was said on July 25 to be reconsidering its planned investment in Chinese steelmaker Laiwu Iron & Steel after the steel policy appeared to discourage foreign firms from taking control of domestic steelmakers. Both Arcelor and Laiwu declined to comment on the report. Posco is considering building a 12 million tpy steel complex in the southeastern Fuj ian Province, although the official stressed that the company has never committed to the project.
