Competing international monitoring and certification bodies are swamping Vietn Mekong Delta to establish their own quality controls on the country's farmed cat writes Herby Neubacher. In aquaculture terms, pangasius is a simple fish. This catfish fromVietnam's Mekong Delta does not require much in farming technology as it does not need much when it comes to water quality. The species can endure very hot temperatures and is happy with earthen pond breeding. On top of this, Pangasius hypophthalmus can survive in poor oxygen levels. Only the Pangasius bocourti species, some 3% of the market, needs a healthy amount of oxygen.
