Bar and wire drawing has been used widely to produce industrial products. However, the drawing conditions, such as die angles, drawing reduction, drawing speeds and other, exert a bad influence on the products. Especially, the residual stresses that are induced by drawing affect the quali ty of products. In this study the residual stresses after cold drawing were analysed experimentally during field operation, and theoretically using the elasto-plastic finite element method (FEM). It was clarified that the result of the experiments agrees with the result of analysis. In this result the residual stress after drawing indicates tensile stress on the surface and compression stress in the center of wire. The residual stress was a maximum for conventional die angles and drawing reduction. The straightness of shafts after processing was improved by appropriate selection of drawing conditions.
