"Safety issues on board our vessel are always high on the agenda," says Kevin Schimanski, skipper of San Aotea ll, a 46 metre factory longliner owned by Sanford that spends many weeks at a time fishing far from shore. Manned by 23 crew, San Aotea il spends nine months of the year fishing for ling in New Zealand waters, away for six or so weeks at a stretch. During the summer it's away for three months fishing for Antarctic toothfish within CCAMLR waters, mainly in the Ross Sea.
